Squeeeee! Fan-girl excitement!

Back in 1992, I was working at a bookstore called Bookstop, which was a predecessor to Barnes and Noble. I actually remember when Barnes and Noble bought Bookstop and started bringing in all their marketing materials and rearranging the store…wait, I digress.

Anyway, I was unpacking boxes in the back, and opened up a box that had this extraordinary large book in it (no wonder I almost gave myself a hernia lifting it) with a tartan, a clock, and what looked like a dagger on the cover. I couldn’t figure out what it was, but the tartan caught my attention.

I flipped it open to read the inside flap of the novel called “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon, and was intrigued. I say intrigued because at the time, I wasn’t “into” romance as much as I had been when I was younger (I was in a horror phase) and time-travel was something I could really care less about, even though I had an unhealthy obsession with all things Star Trek.

Since I had a nice employee discount at my disposal and was looking for a new book to read, I figured, “What the heck, I’ll give it a whirl”. Yeah…famous last words.  So began a 21 year obsession that is still going strong!

The book has had a facelift since then. Every year, I read the series again, which is up to a nice 7 books (with an 8th getting ready to drop soon) and I fall in love with it all over again. I’ve read most of the novels that Ms. Gabaldon has penned, but none compare to Jamie and Claire’s story. And now it gets really exciting 🙂

Starz has picked up Outlander as a TV series. PSYCHED! Omg, so excited about this. I actually hoped they would do a series and not try to fit the book into one two-hour movie because it would not do it justice. Jamie has already been cast, and I am NOT disappointed in their choice; not that he’s just as I pictured Jamie, but because he is a perfect amalgam of the traits and features every reader of Outlander has envisioned.

Le sigh…I can’t wait. And I had to write about it. Every day I troll the ‘net looking for news on the series, and well…the news that Sam Heughan was officially cast as Jamie was the cherry topper to my day 🙂

  1. I keep hearing about this series and every one says that I need to read it but for some reason I just won’t let myself start. I don’t know if I’m afraid of become obsessed, I’m afraid after reading it I am going to be 50 Shade of Disappointment, or if I just don’t want to. Le sigh.

    • 50 Shades of Excrement? Ugh. Seriously though, you need to read the series. At the time, I didn’t think I would enjoy it, but it’s amazing! Jamie Fraser is my all-time favorite romantic leading man! *swoon* However, it IS epic, lol.
